Bible Verse

Meaning

The name does not appear in the Bible. It came from the medieval Latin masculine name Angelus which was derived from the Greek word αγγελος (angelos) meaning “messenger”. An angel first appear in the Old Testament in Genesis 16:7 who told Hagar that she would have a son and should name him Ishmael for the Lord had heard of her misery. Angelica and Angelina are names of the same origin.
