使徒保罗在这封写给哥林多教会（在今天的希腊）的信中，斥责了教会里娶继母而犯乱伦行为的人。保罗写这封信的时候，他当时在哥林多对面的以弗所，可以說，身在曹營心在漢，所以说Absent in body, but present in spirit。 从“absent in body, but present in spirit”（身不在而心在）又引申出“present in body, absent in spirit”（身在而心不在，身在曹营心在汉）的習語。老师常常喜欢用后者来形容课堂上走神的学生。
