It refers to “from Lydia” in Greek. It was also the name of a historic region of Asia Minor which included Troy and Ephesus. However, in the New Testament Lydia was the name of a woman who was a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira and a worshiper of God. When she was listening to Paul’s message, God opened her heart; she was then converted to Christianity.
