bible verse

“Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor.”

origin and application

When Jesus returned to his hometown in Nazareth, people were amazed by Jesus’s miraculous powers and wisdom. Some started to question his ability, because he was only a carpenter’s son during his childhood in Nazareth. Jesus did not perform a lot of miracles in his hometown where people generally doubted him.
In some churches today, this saying is put into practice where preachers, upon graduation, choose not to go back to serve their home church where people grew up with them.
