“A double-edged sword”（雙刃刀）是一種有潛在危險的武器—它的刃兩面都可以切。如果不正確地使用，它對你自己的傷害會和對目標物的傷害一樣大。 在使徒保羅所寫的《希伯來書》中，他把上帝的話描述為“比一切雙刃刀更快，因為“甚至魂與靈，骨節與骨髓，都能刺入剖開，連心中的思念和主意，都能辨明。” 今天，“double-edged sword”（雙刃刀/劍）常用于比喻既有好處又有壞處的事物。比如說現代科技，互聯網，抗生素等等。
