Bible Verse

1 Samuel 9:2

Meaning

It originated from the Hebrew name שָׁאוּל (Sha’ul), meaning “asked for” or “prayed for”. As recounted in the Book of Samuel in the Old Testament, Saul was the first king of Israel anointed by the prophet Samuel. He persecuted David out of jealousy. At the end, he killed himself in a battle with the Philistines and later on David succeeded his throne. In the New Testament, Paul was originally named Saul before he converted to Christianity.
