Meaning
The name stands for “ewe” in Hebrew. In the Old Testament, Rachel was the daughter of Laban and the younger sister of Leah. Jacob laboured for Laban for seven years so as to marry her, but he discovered on his wedding night that Leah instead had been given to him. After another seven years, Rachel became Jacob’s second wife and she gave birth to Joseph and Benjamin.
